I am Cristina Trette. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the Founder of Integrative Couples Therapy. I specialize in working with couples in crisis. My areas of focus are healing after infidelity and counseling couples that are on the brink of divorce. My approach is rooted in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), an evidence-based model that brings healing to distressed aspects of relationships. Whether you are recovering from betrayal, deciding on the future of your marriage, or simply wanting to strengthen communication, I am here to guide you toward lasting connection and transformation.
I work with all relationships including traditional marriages, ethical non-monogamous marriages, domestic partnerships, second marriages, and blended families. My style is warm, compassionate, direct, and growth-oriented. I will support you wholeheartedly and challenge you to make the changes you want to make. I particularly enjoy working with entrepreneurs, and family business owners, as they navigate the unique pressures of business while cultivating strong relationships and family life. I believe that emotional and sexual connection are vital aspects of great love relationships and guide my clients to deepen intimacy while developing practical skills.
I hold a Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both from the University of San Diego. I have completed extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, including the EFT Externship, EFT Core Skills, and advanced EFT training in sex, infidelity, betrayal, trauma, addiction, and violence. I am currently working toward certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, a rigorous process that includes ongoing consultation and training. I have served on the Board of the San Diego Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy for the past six years.
Although today my focus is couples therapy, I have an background in family therapy, parenting support, and parent-child mental health. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and hold a Certification in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International. I completed The Baffling Behavior Training Institute's Year-Long Professional Immersion Program and am a Registered Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behavior Course Facilitator. Lastly I completed The Co-Parenting Specialist™ Training Program led by Christina McGhee, equipping me to support coparents in working together in the best interest of their children.
Before founding Integrative Couples Therapy, I was a therapist in a variety of settings including High Tech High Schools, a residential trauma and addiction recovery program, and a private practice located within The Soul of Yoga. Outside the therapy room, I love running, hiking, yoga, and connecting with my life partner and our children. I believe that movement and time in nature are essential to wellbeing, and I bring these values into both my personal and professional life.
