Couples Therapist

Integrative Couples Therapy, based in Encinitas, California, is seeking a Licensed or Associate Couples Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate is well experienced in couples therapy and wants to immerse themselves in this work. This is the perfect position for a therapist wanting to work in a boutique practice setting without running their own business. This is a W2 office-based position in Encinitas, California.

  • Are able to stay grounded and compassionate when working with highly escalated couples.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Couple and Family Therapy, Counseling, or related program of study.

  • Current Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

  • Able to work at our Encinitas office at least 4 days per week including at least three afternoons/evenings. Generally therapists start with two office days per week and add the remaining days as they build their caseload.

  • Well-experienced in conducting ongoing couples therapy.

  • Completion of, or registration for, the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Externship offered through International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (documentation required).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience and/or training in one or more of the following areas: sex therapy, coparenting, seperation/divorce, perinatal mental health, parenting support, and trauma.

  • Experience running groups and workshops and a desire to run relationship groups and couples workshops.

  • Advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy or training in one of the other main couples therapy models: The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, The Gottman Method, or Sex Therapy.

This position is a good fit for you if:

  • You have a strong desire to immerse yourself in couples therapy exclusively and have a deep love of the work.

  • You have completed professional clinical training in couples therapy.

  • You are able to work at our Encinitas office with ease.

  • You are comfortable engaging in some digital marketing and networking activities (coaching is provided and these duties are minimal).

  • You have the ability to build your private practice caseload over a period of six months.

  • You do not currently own a private practice or therapy business, and must not have plans to start one or join another private practice within the next two years. This ensures a strong long-term fit with our team and allows us to invest fully in your growth, training, and development within the practice.

This position is not a good fit for you if:

  • You are an individual therapist and want to try out doing couples therapy to see if you like it. Or you want to do couples therapy simply to obtain the relational hours needed for your license.

  • You do not have professional clinical training in couples therapy.

  • You are seeking a virtual position.

  • You do not want to do any digital marketing or networking.

  • You need a position that provides you with 20 clients or more per week immediately upon hire.

  • You currently own a private practice or therapy business, or have plans to start one, or join another private practice within the next two years.

Duties:

  • Build a caseload with a goal of completing 20 therapy sessions, or more, each week. Please note that in order to see an average of 20 clients per week you will need to provide availability of 24 to 25 time slots per week.

  • Stay up to date on all clinical documentation so that it is completed within 24 hours of appointments and utilize our AI note-taking for assistance.

  • Provide the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and care with your clients and ICT team.

  • Respond to clients and internal communications promptly, and by the end of each work day.

  • Attend consultation, coaching, and supervision meetings as assigned.

  • Adhere to all legal and ethical guidelines of the Marriage and Family Therapy profession, the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

  • Manage and maintain confidential client information and adhere to HIPAA policies.

  • Marketing and networking (coaching is provided).

Pay:

  • Associate therapists are paid on a fee for service basis at $40 to $60 per clinical hour and $20 per admin/marketing hour.

  • Licensed therapists are paid on a fee for service basis starting at $100 per clinical hour and $20 per admin/marketing hour.
